Pediatric Dentistry FAQ's

Pediatric dentistry focuses on early diagnosis, prevention, and gentle treatments for infants, kids, and teens. It includes basic dental care like cleanings, fluoride treatments, sealants, X-rays, and exams, as well as fillings and crowns as needed. Pediatric dentists make kids feel comfortable when they visit and create positive dental experiences to support good oral hygiene for all ages.

Pediatric dentists recommend that parents bring their child to the dentist for an exam by their first birthday or when their first tooth appears. Early visits set the stage for positive dental experiences as your child grows. Dentists can prevent early cavities, educate kids about the importance of brushing and oral habits, and help your child get families with dental visits from the start.

While general dentistry, sometimes referred to as family dentistry, focuses on care for both adults and children, pediatric dental specialists receive advanced residency training in children’s oral health, from treating childhood cavities to guiding proper growth, to handling children’s dental emergencies. They provide a warm, patient-centered experience that helps kids manage dental anxiety so they can receive the care they need.

Most dental insurance policies cover routine pediatric dental care to prevent cavities and support healthy child development. Every insurance plan varies, so it’s best to check your policy to verify the details of your child’s coverage before your appointment, so you won’t have unexpected costs.
